NVAO offer technical assistance to Armenia concerning the internal and external quality control of the institutions and the further professionalisation of ANQA, National Center for professional Education Quality Assurance. The project is called ARQATA (Armenia Quality Assurance Technical Assistance project), has been financed by the World Bank and runs up to May 2014.
Armenia joined the Bologna process in 2005. By this act it committed itself to revise its higher education system and to comply with the Bologna framework. In line with the Bologna communiqués the Armenian government established the National Center for professional Education Quality Assurance (ANQA) in November 2008. ANQA has gradually built up its own technical competence and understanding of the quality assurance processes in higher education and the demands of Bologna. The Armenian government has requested the World Bank to support the capacity building of ANQA and as a result of that process the contract has been established in April 2010.
ANQA strives to promote public trust, social cohesion, equity, responsibility and competitiveness in Armenian society through systematic enhancement of tertiary level education provisions. It will do so by setting up a system of quality assurance that:
- is receptive to the needs of the national stakeholders;
- complies with international standards; and
- ensures visibility at international level.
